Abstract
This study classified older adults into young-old and old-old and categorized the types of information device usage. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between general characteristics of old adults, information device usage types, and the effects of information device usage types on depression in old adults. To this end, an analysis was conducted using data from The 2017 National Survey of Older Persons. The results of the study were as follow: first, the classification results are classified into young-old as ¡®multi-functional active type¡¯, ¡®communication-centered use type¡¯, ¡®limited text use type¡¯ and ¡®unused type¡¯, and old-old ¡®multi-function use type¡¯, ¡®limited text use type¡¯ and ¡®unused type ¡®was classified. Second¡¯, the weaker the demographic characteristics, the higher the likelihood of belonging to other types compared to the ¡®unused type¡¯, and the young-old had different significant influence factors, whereas the old-old was derived differently. Lastly, both young-old and old-old were less likely to show depression than other non-use types. Based on these results, the necessity of an informatization policy that subdivided old adults was proposed, and it implies that the relationship between information use and depression of older adults was confirmed.
